May 15, 2026This Indenture made this 19th day of May in the year of our Lord one Thousand eight hundred and seven, Between Jacob Haines and Barbara his wife of Jefferson County of Commonwealth of Virginia of the one part, and John Linsday of the same county and commonwealth of the other part. Witnesseth, that for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred dollars current money of the U. States to the said Jacob Haines in hand paid by the said John Lindsay at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge, and thereof doth release, acquit and discharge the said John Lindsay him and his heirs, executors, and administrators, by these presents, therein the Jacob Haines and Barbara his wife have granted, bargained, sold, and by these presents do grant, bargain, and sell unto the said John Lindsay him and his heirs, and assigns a certain piece or parcel of land it being part of Lot shown by No. one hundred eight seven lying and being in the county aforesaid and in Shepherds Town and bounded as follows: Beginning at the corner of said lot on Washington Street and running along Princess street eighty feet to a stake corner to Nicholas Haring thence having Princes Street running with Nicholas Haring line to John Haines line on the east side of the Lot No. 187, it being parallel with Washington street thence John Haines land and running Washington Street to the beginning containing eight thousand two hundred and forty square feet or 8240, be the same more or less this parts of the Lott, is that part sold by Abraham Shepherd unto George Haines by Deed dated April 15, 1793 which will more fully appearing among the records of Berkeley vir’d and George Haines Deeded the same to Jacob Haines October 15th day 1798 also the records is in the County of Berkely. Be it remembered that this part of lots is to pay yearly and every year the Ground rents agreeable to Dud Shepherd to Harriss and subjects to the Rules and Laws of the said Town of Shepherds Town formerly Mecklenburgh. — And all, houses, buildings, orchards, ways, waters, water courses, profits, commodities, hereditaments, and appurtenances whatsoever, to the said premises hereby granted, or any part thereof belonging, or in any way appertaining; and the reversion, and recascious remainder and remainders, rents, issues, and profits thereof, and also all the Estate, right, title, interest, use, trust, property. I am, and demand whatsover of them the said Jacob Haines and Barbara his wife, of, in, and to the said premises, and all deeds, widences, and writings touching or in anywise concerning the same. To have and to hold the lands hereby conveyed, and all and singular other the premises hereby granted, and every part and parcel thereof, with their and every of their appurtenances, unto the said John Lindsay him and his heirs and assigns forever. To the only proper use and behoof of him the said John Lindsay him and his heirs and assigns forever. And the said Jacob Hanes and his wife Barbara for themselves and their heirs, executors, and administrators, doth convent, promise, and grants, to and with the said John Lindsay him and his Heirs and assigns, by these presents, that the said Haines and Barbara his wife now at the time of sealing and Delivery of these presents, are seized of good, sure, perfect, and indefensable estate of inheritance, in fee simple, of and in the premises hereby granted, and that they have good power and lawful and aboslute authority to grant and convey the same to the said John Lindsay in manner and form aforesaid, and that the said premises now are, and forever hereafter shall remain and be free and clear of and from all forever and other gifts, grants, bargains, sales, dower right, and title of dower, judgements, executions, titles, troubles, changes, and encumberances whatsoever, made, done, committed, or suffered by the Jacob Haines, or any person or persons whatsoever (The cand fare imposed by law only excepted and foreprised.) And lastly, that the said Jacob Haines and wife Barbara and their heirs, all and singular the premises hereby granted and released, with the appurtuances unto the said John Lindsay him and his heirs and assigns against them the said Jacob Haines his wife Barbara and their heirs and all and every other person and persons whatsoever, shall warrant and forever defend by these presents. In Witness whereof, the said Jacob Haines and his wife Barabara have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year above written.
