October 24, 2025John J. Hickey, Gent., a native of Ireland, this day applied to the Court to be admitted to become a citizen of the United States, whereupon the said John Joseph Hickey exhibited a certificate of the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Nelson County, Kentucky, showing that he arrived in the United States more than five years previous to the date hereof and declared on oath in the said Court his intention to become a citzen of the U.S., which certificate is as follows: “State of Kentucky, Sct. Nelson Circuit Court, September Term. 1830. Be it remembered that at a Court held for the Nelson Circuit at the Court House in Bardsown, on this day, the 16th day of September in the year of our Lord One Thousand eight hundred and thirty, the following declaration was made by John Joseph Hickey, to wit: John Joseph Hickey, formerly a resident of the City of Dublin, Ireland, but now a resident of Nelson County, Kentucky, aged 22 years came into Court and declared that it is his wish to become a citizen of the Unted States of America, and renounced his allegiance to all foreign Princes, Powers, and Potentates, whatever, and especially to William the 4th King of the United Kingdoms of Great Britain and Ireland.” And it being proved to the satisfaction of the Court by the testimony of Wm. Lucas and Thos. A. Moore, citizens of the United States, who were examined as witnesses on oath, that since the arrival of the said John Joseph Hickey as aforesaid, he has resided within the United States five years at least and within this State one year at least, and during that time has behaved as a man of good moral character, attached to hte principles of the Constitution of the United States, and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the same, he the said John Joseph Hickey declared on oath in open Court that he will support the Constitution of the United States, and that he doth absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to every foreign Prince, Potentate, State or Sovereignty whatever, and particularly to William IV. king of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. And thereupon the said John Joseph Hickey is admitted a citizen of the United States.
