July 2, 2025John Ryan, a native of Ireland, this day applied to the Court to be admitted to become a citizen of the United States: Whereupon the said John Ryan exhibited a certificate of the Clerk of the Washington County Court in the State of Maryland showing that he arrived in the United States more than five years previous to the date hereof, and at the same time also declared on oath within said Court his intention to become a Citizen of the United States, which certificate is as follows. viz, “To the Honorable the Judges of Washington County Court: John Ryan a native of Ireland makes report that his name is John Ryan; that he was born in the County of Tipperary, in Ireland, in the year 1817, that he is now about twenty two years of age, and owes allegiance to the Queen of the United Kingdoms of Great Brittain and Ireland. That he sailed from Liverpool in the year 1836 and arrived at New York during the same year. That he now resides in Washington County, and intend residing therein. Given under his hand this 4th day of April 1839, signed John Ryan (his x).” At the same time the said John Ryan appeared here in open Court and made with oath Holy Evangely, of Almighty God that it is bona fide his intention to be become a citizen of the United States, and to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign Price, Potentate, State or Sovereign whatever; and particularly to the Queen of Great Brittain and Ireland. In Testimony that the foregoing is truly taken from the Record and and proceedings of the County Court aforesaid, in the State of Maryland, I hereunto subscribe my name, and affix the seal of Circuit Court in the County of Washington aforesaid, this 3rd day of May 1834. Isaac Nesbitt, Clk [seal]. And it being proved to the satisfaction of the Court, by the testimony of Samuel Strider and Charles Johnson, citizens of the United States, who were examined as Witness on oath, that since the arrival of the said John Ryan, as aforesaid, he has resided within the United States five years at least, and within this State one year at last, and during that time has behaved as a man of good moral character, attached to the principles of the Constitution of the United States, and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the same, he the said John Ryan declared on oath in open Court, that he will support the Constitution of the United States, and that he doth absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to every foreign Prince, Potentate, State and sovereignty, whatever and particularly to Victoria 1st Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Brittain and Ireland. And thereupon, the said John Ryan is admitted a citizen of the said United States.
