WAR CLAIMS. — A Washington correspondent to the Wheeling Register, under date of March 3, says: —
There are a good many people in West Virginia who are interested in claims already presented and to be hereafter presented to Congress, for consideration. We looked over the calanders of the House Committees on Claims and War Claims, yesterday, and found no less than thirty-nine references of West Virginia matters to these two committees, saying nothing about the claims that have not reached any committee. From Judge Hoge’s District there are before the claims Committee bills for the relief of Richard W. Meade and the employees of the United States who were at Harper’s Ferry at the outbreak of the war; petitions of J. M. Mason, W. F. Wilson and others; and before the War Claims Committee bills and petitions of the German Lutheran Church of Martinsburg, John J. Straith, Daniel Bedinger’s representatives, Jno. H. King, Trinity Church, Martinsburg, Lydia A. Hockman, Elizabeth Hamilton, Samuel Brywning Wildey Lodge I. O. O. F., and the German Evangelical Church at Martinsburg.
