John William Caton, a native of Jefferson county, died last Saturday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charles Cookus, in Martinsburg, following a brief illness from dropsy. Mr. Caton was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George W. Caton, and was born and reared in this vicinity. He moved to Berkeley county a number of years ago, and for a time was engaged in farming, but retired from active work several years ago. He was 64 years old. He is survived by six children, all of whom live in Berkeley county: Raleigh, George W., Charles, John and Allen Caton, and Mrs. Margaret H. Cookus; also the following brothers and sisters: Walter Caton and Mrs. R. D. Dailey, of this vicinity; Mrs. T. J. Hoffman, of Kearneysville; Mrs. Frank Moore, of Bakerton; and Mrs. Jennie Wright, of Iowa. The body was brought to Shepherdstown for burial on Monday, and after funeral services in the Reformed Church conducted by Rev. J. W. Rauch and Rev. Guy P. Bready, was interred in Elmwood Cemetery.
