October 23, 2025Samuel Gibson, Merchant, a native of Ireland, this day applied to the Court to be admitted a citizen of the United States, whereupon the said Samuel Gibson exhibited a certificate of the Clerk of Baltimore County Court in the State of Maryland, showing that more than two years ago he declared on oath in the said Court his intentions to become a citizen of the United States in these words. “Be it remembered that at the above Term, to wit: on he twenty seventh day of March, in the year aforesaid (1833) Samuel Gibson, a native of Ireland, comes into said County Court here, and makes oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that it is bona fide his intention to become a citizen of the United States and to renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to every foreign Prince, Potentate, State and Sovereignty, whatever, and particularly all allegiance to the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, of whom he was heretofore a subject. In testimony whereof, I have hereto set my hand and affixed the seal of my office this twenty seventh day of March, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty three. Arad Israel Clerk. Baltimore County Court.” And it being proved to the satisfaction of this court, by the testimony of Martin Grace & Gerard B. Wager, citizens of the said United States, who were examined as witnesses on oath, that since the arrival of the said Samuel Gibson as aforesaid, he has resided within the United States, five years at least, and within this State one year at least, and during that time has behaved as a man of good moral character, attached to the principals of the Constitution of the United Sates, and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the same, he the said Samuel Gibson declares on oath in open court that he will support the constitution of the United States, and that he doth absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign Prince, Potentate, State or Sovereignty whatever, and particularly to Victoria I.
