Naturalization Intent: John Sellan

John Sellan, an alien, who is desirous of being naturalized a citizen of the United States, this day appeared in Court, and in pursuance of the Act of Congress made the following report of himself, viz: “I was born within the County of Ross, Scotland on the 18th day of January 1821 being now in the thirty three year of my age, that I am a subject of Victoria Queen of Great Britain and Ireland, owing allegiance to that monarch and none other; that I migrated to the United States in the 6th day of July 1848, and that I intend to settle in Virginia one of the United States — Given under my hand this 20th day of May 1834. John Sellan. Whereupon the said John Sellan this day declared on oath, that it is bona fide his intention to become a citizen of the United States, and to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign Prince, Potentate, State or Sovereignty whatever, and particularly to Victoria 1st Queen of Great Britain and Ireland.
