At a County Court continued and held for said County, the 18th day of January, 1876, the following order was made and entered of record:
At a Court held for this County, on the 15th day of November, 1875, all the Justices being present, it was ordered that the Justices of the County meet at the Court House of the County, on the summons of the President of the Court, for the purpose of Re-Districting the County– and in pursuance of the above order, and by notice from the President, all the Justices met at the Court House on the 4th of January, 1876, and proceeded to Re-District the County, as follows:
District No. 1. Kabletown.
Beginning at the Corner of Jefferson and Clarke Counties, on the top of the Blue Ridge Mountain, thence along said mountain on the Loudoun line to the Corner of School Districts No. 14 and 15, thence N. W. in a straight line, crossing the Shenandoah River at the Walraven Dam, thence in said straight line, crossing the Winchester and Potomac Railroad, in the line of Beckwith and Flagg, thence until it intersects the line of District No. 2 on the land of John G. Shirley, thence S. W. in the line of No. 2 to the intersection of the Clarke County line, where the Winchester and Potomac Railroad crosses into Clarke County, Virginia, thence S. E. along Clarke County line to the Beginning.
District No. 2. Middleway.
Beginning in the Clarke County line and Corner to District No. 1, thence N. E. in a straight line to Brown’s Shop (now Draubaugh’s) on the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, thence N. W. with the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad to the Berkeley line, thence S. W. with the Berkeley line to Campbell’s Ford on the Opequon Creek, and Corner to Clarke County, thence S. E. with the Clarke County line to the Beginning.
District No. 3. Charlestown.
Beginning on the top of the Blue Ridge Mountain and corner to No. 1, thence N. W. with No. 1 to the intersection of line in No. 2 on the land of John G. Shirley, thence N. E. with District No. 2 to Brown’s Shop on the Baltimore and Ohio Rail Road, thence with the said Railroad S. E. to the intersection of Warm Spring road thence S. E. in a straight line, crossing the Charlestown and Shepherdstown road at a point where the lands of James H. Moore and Wm. B. Daniels corner on said road, and on in a straight line to the intersection of the line of District No. 5, leaving Foley in District No. 3, and McMichael in District No. 4, thence South in a straight line, with District No. 5 to the Charlestown, Kabletown and Bloomery Turnpike, at the point where said road crosses F. J. Manning’s land, ext to the land of James W. Glenn, (formerly Moore’s) thence with the Bloomery Branch of said road to the Shenandoah River, leaving the Saw Mill and Sash Factory in District No. 5, thence down said River to the mouth of Cat Tail Run, thence East in a straight line to the top of the Blue Ridge Mountain, the Beginning.
District No. 4. Shepherdstown.
Beginning at the crossing of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, in the Berkeley line, and running with the said Rail Road to the crossing of the Warm Spring Road– thence S. E. in a straight line with No. 3, to the intersection of the line of No. 5, on the land of Foley, thence North with the line of No. 5, to the corner of School Districts No. 3 and 4; thence S. E. with said School District No. 4 to the corner of the Lands of Flanagan and Knott, on the Potomac River, thence with said river to the Berkeley County Line, thence S. W. with the Berkeley line to the Beginning.
District No. 5. Harpers Ferry.
Beginning on the Shenandoah River corner to No. 3, thence down said River to the mouth of Cat Tail Run, thence E. with No. 3, to the top of Blue Ridge Mountain, thence down said Mountain with the Loudoun line to the Potomac River, thence up the Potomac River to the corner of No. 4, on the Lands of Flanagan and Knott, thence W. with District No. 4, to the corner of School Districts No. 3 and 4, thence in a direct straight line South with the lines of Districts 4 and 3 to the Charlestown, Kabletown and Bloomery Turnpike, where said road crosses the lands of F. J. Manning, next to the land of J. W. Glenn (formerly Moore’s) and corner to No. 3, thence with the Bloomery Branch of said Road to the Beginning.
ORDERED that the President of the Court is hereby authorized and directed to have the Re-Districting of the County as above laid off and designated recorded in the order Book at the January Term, 1876, of the County Court, to take effect at the next general election of county officers of this County, and that all District officers shall be elected by the qualified voters within the bounds of said respective Districts at all future elections.
