Naturalization: William Roddy

William Roddy, a native of Ireland, this day applied to the Court to be admitted to become a citizen of the United States; whereupon the said William Roddy exhibited a certificate of the Clerk of Berkeley County, Virginia, which certificate is as follows: Virginia, at a Court held for Berkeley County at the Court house on tuesday, the 14th day of March 1843, William Roddy a native of Ireland personally appeared in Open Court and declared on oath that it is bona fide his intention to become a citizen of the United States and to renounce and abjure all allegiance to every foreign Prince, Potentate, State and Sovereignty and particularly and especially to Victoria Queen of Great Britain and Ireland to whom he owes allegiance, which is ordered to entered of record. In testimony, whereof, I Norman Miller, Clerk [?] of the said Court at Martinsburg the 1st day of June 1846 and the 70th year of our foundation. Norman Miller G.B.G. pos. term.

And it proved to the satisfaction of the Court by John P. Steward and George Spotts, citizens of the United States who were examined as witnesses on oath, that the said William Roddy has constantly resided in the State of Virginia one of the United States, for more than five years past, and during that time has behaved as a man of good moral character, attached to the principles of the Constitution of the United States, and well disposed to the good order and happenings of the same, he the said William Roddy declared on oath in open Court, that he will support the Constitution of the United States, and that he doth absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign Prince, Potentate, State or Sovereignty, whatever, and particularly to Victoria, Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. And thereupon the said William Roddy is admitted a citizen of the United States.
