Naturalization Intent: Lawrence Finley

Lawrence Finley, an alien, who has lately arrived in the United States, and is desirous of becoming naturalized a citizen thereof this day appeared in Court, and in pursuance of the act of Congress, made a report of himself which report is in the following words, to wit:

“I, Lawrence Finley, make the following report of myself to the County Court of Jefferson, in the State of Virginia, that is to say I report that I was born in the County of Dublin, in Ireland, on the 7th of March in the year 1810, being now in the 31st year of my age, that I am a subject of Victoria the 1st Queen of Great Britain & Ireland, owing allegiance to that monarch and none other, that I migrated from Ireland to the United States in the year 1834, and that I intend to settle myself in Jefferson County, in the State of Virginia, one of the United States. Given under my hand this 19th day of October, 1840. (signed) Lawrence Finley.

And the said Lawrence Finley declared on oath that it is bona fide his intention to become a citizen of the United States and to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign Prince, Potentate, State or Sovereignty whatever and particularly to Victoria I Queen of Great Britain and Ireland.
