October 24, 2025Matthew McCormick, a native of Ireland, this day applied to the Court to be admitted a citizen of the United States, and it appearing to the Court that more than five years ago, to wit, on the 19th day of December in the year 1836, in the marine Court of the city of New York, he declared on oath his intention to become a citizen of the United States, and to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to every foreign Prince, Potentate, State, or Sovereignty whatever and particularly to the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and it being proved to the satisfaction of the Court by the testimony of John W. Smallwood and Elias Dearing, citizens of the United States, who were examined as witnesses on oath, that since the arrival of the said Matthew McCormick as aforesaid he has resided in the United States five years at least and within the State one year at least and during that time has behaved as a man of good moral character attached to the principles of the constitution of the United States and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the same, he, the said Matthew McCormick, declared on oath that he will support the constitution of the United States, and that he doth absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to every foreign Prince, Potentate, State or Sovereignty whatever, and particularly to Victoria I Queen of Great Britain and Ireland, and therefore the said Matthew McCormick is admitted a citizen of the United States.
