October 2, 2025William Hoey, Carpenter, a native of Ireland, this day appeared to the Court to be admitted to become a citizen of the United States, whereupon the said William Hoey exhibited a certificate of the Clerk of the Court of Sumpter District, State of South Carolina, in the words and figures following to wit, “South Carolina Sumter District, “I Ineal G. Mathis, Clerk of the Court of Common H__ for Sumter District in the State aforesaid do hereby certify that on the tenth day of June in the year of our Lord one Thousand eight hundred and twenty two and in the forty seventh year of the sovereignty and independence of the United States of America William Hoey a native of the Kings County in that part of Great Britain called Ireland and a subject of the King of Great Britain, about twenty seven years of age made report to me acceptable to an act of Cogress of the United States, passed on the fourteenth day of April in the year of our Lord one Thousand eight hundred and two, That he lately emigrated from Ireland and that he intends to make the Sate of South Carolina his future place of residence and to become a citizen of the United States. Recorded in the minutes of the Court on the tenth day of June A.D. 1822– Page 106 — I. G. Mathis.”
“The State of South Carolina Sumter District, I, John Nettles Clerk of the Court of Sessions and Common as for the District and State aforesaid to hereby certify that the above is a correct copy as appears on the minutes of said Court. Given under my hand and Seal of said Court this tenth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty nine and in the fifty third year of Sovereignty and Independance of the Untied States of America. John Nettles”
And it being proven to the satisfaction of the Court, by testimony of William McGraw and Henry Nooney, citizens of the said United States, who were examined as witnesses on oath, that since the arrival of the said William Hoey aforesaid he has resided within the United States five years at least, and within this State one year at least and that during that time he has behaved as a man of good moral character, attached to the principles of the Constitution of the United States, and well disposed to the good order and happiness of teh same, he the said William Hoey, declared on oath in open Court, that he will support the Constitution of the United States, and that he doth absolutely and entirely renounce and abssine all allegiance and fidelity to every foregin prince, potentate state or severeignty whatever and particularly to George, King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. And thereupon the said William Hoey is admitted a citizen of the said United States.
