Coercion In Bakerton

Trying to Scare ‘Em Again.
In some way the employees of the Washington Building Lime Company, operating extensive quarries at Bakerton, this county, have received notice that if Taft is elected the works are to be continued; otherwise, there is to be nothing doing in the way of employment there. Nobody seems to know just who hands out these prophecies to the men employed there, but their purpose is very evident. This is a plain case of coercion, and whether it is being employed by the officials of the company or by political workers among the men, those guilty of it should be held up to public contempt if not actually indicted for a crime no less heinous than bribery. Thus far this campaign this is the only case of the kind reported in the county, and we are inclined to the belief that even in this instance the officials of the Washington Building Lime Company are innocent. The coercion practice is probably being conducted by political busybodies not connected officially with the company. — Charles Town Advocate
