August 4, 2024Moler, High Yields due to Liming Fields
August 4, 2024Lee French, a colored man, met death at the Standard Lime and Stone Company’s quarries, south of Martinsburg, on Wednesday. French was the tender of one of the trucks used in hauling stone to the larger crusher, and had just finished dumping it. The car started on the return down the incline, and he got on it to ride down. When the car was about half way down the incline, it jumped the track. This jarred French off and he fell to the ground, a distance of about 35 feet. He fell on his shoulder, and the car falling on top of him, he received internal injuries from which he died shortly after. The remains were sent to his home at Ripon, Jefferson county. He was twenty-eight years old.
