June 20, 2018Tournament at Halltown. — On Saturday, the 9th, a Tournament came off at Halltown. The following is a list of knights entered:
T.G. Ott, Knight of Shenandoah; John Beck, Knight of Lone Star; John Flanagan, Knight Sir; Magnus Cockrell, Knight Forget Me Not; John Henkle, Knight Fair Play; Frank H. Gardner, Ivanhoe; Albert Cockrell, Sancho Panza; Thomas Vanvacter, Modoe; J. B. Gardner, Don Quixote, James M. Trussell, Knight of Old Dominion; John Daniels, Knight of Fairview; Thomas Burleigh, Capt. Jack; J. Rhinehart, Knight of Silver Spring; John Henkle, Knight of Monticello. After the riding the crowd removed to Willow Grove, where the coronation took place on a platform erected for the purpose. D. B. Lucas, Esq., made the address to the successful Knights and the chosen Ladies in his usual and effective style. The Knight of West Virginia selected Miss Emma Keyser of Bolivar, as Queen of Love and Beauty; Knight of Potomac View, Miss Gertrude Cavalier, of Bolivar, as First Maid of Honor; Knight Independence, Miss Lulie Beall, of Charlestown, Second Maid of Honor; Knight Sylvester, Miss Emma Rau, of Bolivar, Third Maid of Honor. The four graceful, pretty girls were led forward, and as the orator took from the points of the Knights’ lances to the handsome white wreaths to place them in turn on their fair brows, the scene was radiant in smiles and sunshine.
