May 1, 2024THREE DROWN IN POTOMAC
They Were Crossing River When Ice Upset The Boat.
Hagerstown, Md. – Jan. 24.— William Grimm, aged forty-three, his son, Raymond, twenty, and Richard Shipwe, forty, all of Dargan, Washington county, were drowned in the Potomac as they were crossing in a skiff to Bakerton, W. Va., where they were employed at the Bakerton quarries, of which William Grimm was foreman.
Ice flows caused their boat to capsize. Jesse Grimm, another son of William, was saved by his cousin, Cecil Grimm, and four other men, who went to rescue the boat. Owing to heavy logs and the darkness the other three men could not be seen by the rescuing party.
