May 19, 2020The Sad Drowning of Roy Staley
May 19, 2020Mrs. Carrie B. Caton, wife of Walter Caton and daughter of James P. Staley, of this vicinity, died last Saturday in the King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Martinsburg, following a surgical operation performed several days previously. Mrs. Caton had been in declining health the past year from a complication of diseases, and in the hope that an operation would afford relief and prolong her life she was taken to the hospital. The operation, however, revealed such a serious condition that it was manifest her days were numbered and she passed away about half-past ten o’clock on Saturday. Her death brings sorrow to her family and friends, for she was a devoted wife and mother, a good Christian woman, and her life was spent in service to others. She had been for years a consistent member of the Reformed Church. Besides her husband and father, she is survived by two sons, Guy and Forrest Caton, and a brother, Walter Staley. The funeral service was conducted in the Reformed Church in this place on Monday by her pastor, Rev. Dr. S. L. Flickinger, and the body was interred in Elmwood Cemetery.
