Hog Cholera Havoc in Jefferson County
July 31, 2018Commissioner’s Notice: James S. Flanagan Accounts
July 31, 2018Just before we go to press we learn of the death of Mrs. Alice Hopper, a lifelong resident of the Bakerton neighborhood, which occurred this morning about 5 o’clock. She had been ill for a week or two with pleurisy, and this was followed by pneumonia, which quickly terminated fatally. Mrs. Hopper, whose maiden name was Flanagan, was the widow of A. M. Hopper, and was 67 years of age. She was a kind-hearted woman, a loving mother and devoted friend, and she will be greatly missed in the community where she had lived so long. She is survived by four sons and three daughters: John and James Hopper, of Kearneysville, William, of Martinsburg, and Charles, at home; Mrs. Charles Cooger, Mrs. Francis Cole, and Mrs. Hunter Swann, of Washington. The funeral we are informed will be held Friday morning at 10 o’clock.
