Naturalization Intent: Thomas Kirwan

Thomas Kirwan, an alien, who has lately arrived in the United States, and is desirous of being naturalized a citizen thereof, this day appeared in Court, and made a report of himself, which report is in these words: “I, Thomas Kirwan, make the following report of myself to the County Court of Jefferson County, in the State of Virginia, that is to say, I report that I was born Ireland, that I am a subject of Victoria I. Queen of Great Britain and Ireland, owing allegiance to that monarch and none other, that I migrated from Ireland to the United States in the year 1826, and that I intend to settle myself in the State of Virginia, one of the United States. Given under my hand this 21st day of October 1844. (signed/ Thos. Kirwan.

And the said Thomas Kirwan declared on oath yesterday in open Court, that it is bonafide his intention to become a citizen of the United States, and to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign Prince, Potentate, State, or Sovereignty, whatever, and particularly to Victoria I. Queen of Great Britain and Ireland.
