Naturalization Intent: Patrick Murphy

Patrick Murphy, an alien, who has lately arrived in the United States, and is desirous of being naturalized a citizen thereof, this day appeared in Court, in pursuance of the Act of Congress made a report of himself, which report is in these words, to wit; “I, Patrick Murphy, make the followng report of myself to the County Court of Jefferson in the State of Virginia, that is to say, I report that I was born in Ireland in the year 1821, being now in the 29th year of my age, that I am a subject of Victoria the 1st Queen of Great Britain and Ireland, owing allegiance to that monarch and none other; that I migrated from Ireland to the United States in the year 1846, and that I intend to settle in the State of Virginia, one of the United States. Given under my hand this 20th day of May, 1850. Patrick Murphy.”

And the said Patrick Murphy declared in oath that it is bona fide his intention to become a citizen of the United States, and to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign Prince, Potentate, State or Sovereignty whatever, and particularly to Victoria the 1st Queen of Great Britain and Ireland.
