Naturalization Intent: Murtha Walsh

Murtha Walsh, an alien, who is desirous of being naturalized a citizen of the United States, this day appeared in open Court, and in pursuance of the act of Congress, made the following report of himself, to wit, “I, Murtha Walsh, make the following report of myself to the Circuit Court of Jefferson County Virginia, that is to say that I report that I was born in Ireland in the Kingdom of Great Britain in the year 1824 being now in the 28th year of my age, that I am a subject of Victoria the 1st Queen of Great Britain and Ireland, owing allegiance to that monarch and none other, that I migrated from Ireland to the United States in the year 1849, also that I intend to settle myself at Harpers Ferry in Jefferson County, State of Virginia, one of the United States. Given under my hand this 28th day of May 1852.– Murtha Walsh.” And thereupon the said Murtha Walsh in open Court declared on oath, that is bona fide his intention to become a citizen of the United States, and to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign Prince, Potentate, State, or Sovereignty, whatever, and particularly to Victoria the 1st Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.
