Naturalization Intent: John Cunningham

John Cunningham, an alien, who has lately arrived in the United States, and is desirous of being naturalized a citizen thereof, this day appeared in Court, and in pursuance of the act of Congress, made a report of himself, which report is in the words and figured following, viz: “I, John Cunningham make the following report of myself to the County Court of Jefferson, in the State of Virginia, that is to say, I report that I was born in Longford County, Ireland, on the — day of — 1798, being now in the 42nd year of my age, that I am a subject of the Queen of England, owing allegiance to that Monarch and none other, that I migrated from Ireland to the United States on the 6th of May, 1828, and that I intend to settle myself in the County of Jefferson and State of Virginia, one of the United States. Given under my hand this 16th day of June, 1840. John Cunningham. Teste, Ch. B. Harding.

And the said John Cunningham declared on oath that it is bona fide his intention to become a citizen of the United States and to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign Prince, Potentate, State, or Sovereignty whatever, and particularly to Victoria I. Queen of Great Britain and Ireland.
