July 22, 2023At the May term of the County Court of Jefferson county, in the matter of the petition of Charles H. Knott and others for the opening or changing a county road from Teague’s run up the Potomac river along the cliffs to the wharf at Shepherdstown, it was ordered that A. P. Reinhart, P. F. Marshall, and Geo. W. Duke be appointed viewers, with instructions to view ground for the proposed road, report upon the advantages or disadvantages which in their opinion will result to individuals as well as to the public from the proposed road, the grade of the proposed road as near as they can, and any other facts and circumstances that may be useful and pertinent, stating specially whether it will take any yard, garden, orchard, or any part thereof, or injure or destroy any buildings; the probable cost of the work, the names of the land owners whose property would have to be taken or injured, which of them requires compensation and the probable amount to which each would be entitled; examining if they so desire, others routes and locations, and report in favor of the one they prefer and deem most advisable; said viewers shall call in the County Surveyor to assist them in the performance of their duty, and shall return a map or diagram of the route or location with their report and make a full report to the next term of the Court.
