May 10, 2026In the name of God amen, I Hugh Flanegan of Frederick County and State of Maryland being in a good state of health but of sound and disposing mind and understanding and considering the certainty of death and the uncertainty of the time thereof and being desirous to settle my affairs and thereby be the better prepared to leave this wolrd when ever it shall please God, to call me home, do therefore make and ordain and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following, viz, 1st and principally I commit my soul into the hands of Almighty God who created it and my body to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executor hereinafter named and after my debts and funeral charges and private legacies herein after specified are paid I give and bequeath unto my two Daughters Mary Kelly and Catherine McGerry all the real and personal property I may be possessed of at my death to be divided equally between them. — I leave and bequeath unto my two beloved grandsons Joseph McGerry and Francis McGerry one hundred Dollars to be applied in equal shares for their education– and whereas Joseph Hughes of Emittsburgh is indebted to me by his note of one hundred and thirty six pounds twelve shillings and six pence Maryland currency or three hundred and sixty four dollars and thirty three cents which he may or may not have in his power to pay according as he ma get out of his present embarassments I leave and bequeath unto the same two grandsons Joseph and Francis McGerry this said note to be applied if paid to the same purpose of their education qually with the above sum of one hundred dollars– and in case of either dying before they enjoy it, to the surviving one. I leave and bequeath twenty dollars to be applied towards increasing or repairing the Church at Mount St. Mary at the will of the superior of the Seminary. Lastly I hereby nominate, constitute and appoint Felix McGerry my son-in-law sole Executor of this my last will and testament hereby annulling and revoking any other will or wills heretofore by me made. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this Eighteen day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and nineteen.
