MARTINSBURG, W. Va., December 4.— Mrs. Mary Gross, 40 years old, of Dargan, Md., and Roy Hoffman of Bakerton, W. Va., were drowned, and John Louden, also of Bakerton, nearly lost his life late last night when the boat in which they were crossing from the Maryland to the West Virginia side of the Shenandoah River sank.
The boat leaked with the combined weight of the three and they were unable to bail fast enough to keep it afloat. Hoffman, having only one arm, was unable to row and had engaged Louden to row him to Maryland to get Mrs. Gross. The bodies have been recovered.
