November 12, 2023Mrs. Mary C. Licklider, for many years a greatly esteemed resident of this neighborhood, died last Sunday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Kephart, near Duffields, following an illness of a couple of weeks from paralysis. Mrs. Licklider, whose maiden name was Flanagan, was the widow of John C. Licklider, and was 75 years of age. All of her long life was spent in this vicinity, where she was highly regarded by all who knew her. She had been from her youth a consistent member of the Lutheran Church of Uvilla, and was exemplary in all her ways. Kind-hearted and considerate, interested in all good works, she will be missed by many relatives and friends. She is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Walter Kephart and Mrs. Charles Melvin, of this county, and Mrs. J. D. Thomas, of Loudoun county, Va.; also a sister, Mrs. Alice Hopper, of Bakeron, who is now the last survivor of the family. The funeral service was held in the Uvilla Lutheran Church on Tuesday, conducted by Rev. I. D. Worman, and the body was laid to rest in Elmwood Cemetery, Shepherdstown.
