That portion of the plant of the Washington Building Lime Company at Bakerton which was destroyed by fire last week is to be immediately rebuilt. The sheds and fixtures of twelve of the kilns were burned, and the loss having been promptly adjusted by Washington, Alexander & Cooke, the debris and rubbish has been cleared away and preparations made for rebuilding. The new plant will be much better than the old. The kilns will be of improved pattern and the building that shelters them will be constructed of iron and steel, so that there will never again be any danger from fire. Three cars loaded with coal were among the property destroyed in the fire last week. It is said that some twenty or thirty men were about the kilns when the fire started, but all of them were asleep, and the flames had gotten so much headway they could not be extinguished, the water connection having been broken by falling lumber.
