THE WAR OF RACES.– A party of negro men from Washington and Baltimore were one day last week sent to Newtown to work upon a section of the W. & S. R. R. lately given to new contractors. The Irish laborers who had been employed by the former contractor, however, put a veto on this, and with clubs, stones, and other weapons “went for the negroes.” and the consequence was a lively race down the Valley pike to Winchester, in which the darkies distanced their pursuers, and escaped unhurt. We understand that a re-inforcement of negroes will be put upon several sections of the road, and protection furnished them, as white laborers cannot be obtained in sufficient force to insure the completion of the road by the desired turn, 1st December. Under the circumstances, we hope there will be no further interference with these colored laborers.
