Geo. Houser, Returned From France
January 27, 2025Obit: George Samuel Houser
January 27, 2025Last week the REGISTER noted the death of Samuel Houser, who lived in Maryland, near Harper’s Ferry. It is said that his death was caused indirectly by Sol. Penner. Mr. Houser, who was 22 years old, and a nephew of Mr. D. R. Houser, of Bakerton, was just recovering from a severe spell of sickness. On his way home from Harper’s Ferry he was met by Penner, who had a grudge against him. Penner made an attack upon him, and Mr. Houser, being weak and unable to defend himself, waded through the canal to get away from his enemy. He, of course, got very wet, and when he went home at once became ill and died in a short time. It is said that Penner, alarmed at Houser’s death, escaped across the river at Knott’s quarries, and is supposed to be somewhere in this county.
