October 23, 2025Thomas Gallaher, a native of Ireland, this day applied to the Court to be admitted to become a citizen of the United States, whereupon the said Thomas Gallaher exhibited a certificate of the Clerk of St. Louis Court of Common Pleas, with the State of Missouri showing that more than two years ago he declared on oath in the said Court his intention to become a citizen of the United States; which Certificate is in these words: “State of Missouri, County of St. Louis, ss. Before the Clerk of the St. Louis Court of Common Pleas appeared Thomas Gallagher, a native of Ireland, aged twenty eight years, who being duly sworn, upon his oath declares, that it is bona fide his intention to become a citizen of the United States, and to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to every foreign person, prince, State, and sovereignty whatever, and particularly to Queen Victoria of the English Empire of whom he is at present a subject. Thomas Gallagher: Sworn to and subscribed, before me this eleventh day of December 1843. Nathaniel Porchell, Clerk, by J. R. Lackland, Deputy. State of Missouri, County of St. Louis, ss. I, Nathanial Porchall, Clerk of the St. Louis Court of Common Plea, within and for the County of St. Louis, certify the above to be a true transcript of the record in the same remains in my office. In Testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the seal of said Court, at office in the City of St. Louis this seventh day of December in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and forty three. Lackland.” And it being proved to the satisfaction of the Court, by the testimony of Andrew Hunter and Isaac Fouke, citizens of the said United States, who were examined as witnesses on oath, that since the arrival of the said Thomas Gallagher as aforesaid, he has resided within the United States five years at least, and within this State one year at least, and during that time has behaved as a man of good moral character, attached to the principles of the Constitution of the United States, and well disposed to the good order and happenings of the same, he the said Thomas Gallagher declared on oath in open Court, that he will support the Constitution of the United States, and that he doth absolutely and entirely renouce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to every foreign Prince, Potentate, State or Sovereignty, whatever and particularly to Victoria the first Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. And therefore the said Thomas Gallagher is admitted a citizen of the United States.
