October 24, 2025Michael McGuire, a native of Ireland, this day applied to the Court to be admitted a citizen of the United States, and it appearing to the Court that more than two years ago, to wit: on the 3rd day of March, 1837, in the maritime Court in the City of New York, he declared on oath his intention to become a citizen of the United States, and to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign Prince, Potentate, State or Sovereignty whatever, and particularly to the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, and it being proved to the satisfaction of the Court, by the testimony of Eli H. Carrell and Isaac Fouke, citizens of the United States, who were examined as witnesses on oath, that since the arrival of the said Michael McGuire in the United States he has resided within the United States five years at least and within this State on year at least, and during that time behaved as a man of good moral character, attached to the principles of the Constitution of the United States, and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the same, he, the said Michael McGuire, declared on oath in open Court, that he will support the Constitution of the United States, and that he doth absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to every foreign Prince, Potentate, State, or Sovereignty whatever, and particularly to Victoria I. Queen of Great Britain and Ireland; and thereupon the said Michael McGuire is admitted a citizen of the United States.
