July 28, 2025James Halpin, a native of Ireland, this day applied to the Court to be admitted a citizen of the United States, and it appearing to the Court that more than two years ago, to wit, in Baltimore City Court, within the State of Maryland, on the 30th day of September, 1839, he declared an oath in the said Court his intention to become a citizen of the United States, and to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to every foreign Prince, Potentate, State, or Sovereignty whatever and particularly to the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and it being proved to the satisfaction of the Court by the testimony of William Kelly and Elias Kearning, citizens of the United States, who were examined as witnesses on oath, that since the arrival of the said James Halpin as aforesaid he has resided in the United States five years at least and within the State one year at least and during that time has behaved as a man of good moral character attached to the principles of the constitution of the United States and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the same, he, the said James Halpin, declared on oath that he will support the constitution of the United States, and that he doth absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to every foreign Prince, Potentate, State or Sovereignty whatever, and particularly to Victoria I Queen of Great Britain and Ireland, and therefore the said James Halpin is admitted a citizen of the United States.
