May 2, 2024The Mount Vernon Place M. E. Church South was the scene of a very pretty wedding last evening when Miss Ray Miller, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David N. Miller of Alta Vista, Md., was married to Mr. Lowell H. Hetzel, the son of Mrs. David Hetzel of Bakerton, W. Va. Before the ceremony, which was performed by the Rev. Forney D. Hutchinson, pastor of the church, assisted by the Rev. Earl D. Miller, a brother of the bride, a short musical program was given by Miss Anna Laura Sanford, soloist, who was accompanied by Miss Ardis Atkinson at the organ.
The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of antique ivory satin, made with a yoke and sleeves of embroidered net. Her veil, which was arranged in cap effect, was also of the embroidered net. She carried a shower bouquet of Johanna Hill roses and lilies of the valley.
Miss Miller had for her maid of honor Miss Jean Sandige, who wore a gown of peach color satin, and carried an arm bouquet of Briarcliff roses and delphinium. The bridesmaids. Miss Elizabeth Stoneburner. Miss Frances Magruder. Miss Wilma Smith and Miss Helen Hetzel, a sister of the bridgroom, wore matching costumes of blue satin and carried arm bouquets of talisman roses and delphinium.
Mr. James Moler of Bakerton, W. Va., acted as best man for Mr. Hetzel, and the ushers were Mr. William Firth, Mr. Livingston Johnson. Mr. Frederick Church and Mr. Merle Lank, all of this city.
Following the wedding ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride’s brother, Mr. William Miller, on Irving street northwest, at which the bride was assisted in receiving by her mother, who wore a gown of blue satin with a corsage bouquet of Johanna Hill roses. Mrs. Hetzel, the mother of the bridegroom, wore a black satin and had a similar corsage of Johanna Hill roses.
Both the bride and bridegroom are graduates of George Washington University. The bride is a member of the Alpha Delta Theta Pi Gamma Mu and Alpha Lambda Delta Sororities and the bridegroom is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
The bride wore for traveling a brown wool suit with a blouse of rust crepe with matching accessories. After a short wedding trip Mr. and Mrs. Hetzel will make their future home at Bakerton, W. Va. Among the out-of-town guests present at the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Emmart, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Best and Mr. and Mrs. William Flanagan of Bakerton, W. Va.
