Civil Engineers who Have Been Making Preliminary Survey for the Freight Cut-off Return to Baltimore.
Major Goldsborough, civil engineer, and his corps, some 15, have just completed their work to Harper’s Ferry and returned to Baltimore. They have been engaged for two months making an exhaustive survey for a new branch road of the Baltimore and Ohio, which will leave the bridge at Harper’s Ferry pass through Bakerton, Shepherdstown and tap the main stem again at Tabbs, four miles west of Martinsburg, so that the curves and heavy grades may be avoided between here and Harper’s Ferry. The tunnel west of Harper’s Ferry is being removed rapidly and when finished a third track will be immediately laid to connect with Engles. The civil engineers will likely return to this city in the future and begin the work of locating the new freight cut-off.
