July 18, 2023Dr. C. W. Chancellor, secretary and executive officer of the Maryland State board of health, has returned after an extended trip of inspection along the Potomac river from Point of Rocks to Williamsport, where considerable damage was done by the recent flood. He reports that large quantities of grain and other organic matter are in a state of decomposition. He advised general disinfection. Much trouble is feared from the estuaries of the Potomac, and the exposed bottom of the Chesapeake and Ohio canal, as it is covered with decaying matter.
