A wedding of interest took place last evening at 7 o’clock at the residence of Mrs. Margaret Ball, in Girard street, when her daughter, Miss Frances Virginia Ball, was married to Dr. James Franklin Hilton. The ceremony, which was performed by Rev. Father McGee, of the Shrine of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, was witnessed only by a family party, but was followed by a large reception at Rauscher’s from 8 until 10 o’clock.
The marriage service was read before a white satin prie-dieu, while an artistic background for the bridal group, consisted of tall palms and quantities of oak leave, intermingling with great clusters of white chrysanthemums. The decorations at Rauscher’s were effectively carried out with the same flowers. A string orchestra played throughout the evening.
The bridal gown was a beautiful princess creation of Irish point lace, built over chiffon and soft silk. The yoke was trimmed with pearl pendants, while the train was flounced with two lace ruffles. The long tulle veil which fell in graceful folds to the hem of the gown, was fastened with a wreath of orange blossoms and a shower bouquet of orchids and lilies of the valley was carried.
Miss Catherine Hilton and Miss Blanche Kaldenback, as bridesmaids, wore dainty contrasting gowns, one pink and the other blue poie de sole, fashioned after the princess style and prettily trimmed in lace. Miss Hilton carried pink chrysanthemums, and Miss Kaldenback’s bouquet was of white chrysanthemums. Dr. J. Breckinridge Bayne was best man.
Dr. and Mrs. Hilton left for a wedding trip, Mrs. Hilton wearing a smart tailored gown of black with white stripes, with a becoming small hat of black, fur trimmed, with a pale yellow bird of paradise. The costume was completed by lynx furs. Upon their return they will be at home after December 10 at 1218 Girard street.
Mrs. Ball, mother of the bride, received in a handsome gown of black chiffon over taffeta.
Mrs. John Burch, sister of the bride-groom, wore a gown of black lace.
The bride, who is an unusually attractive young girl, is from South Carolina, but has lived in this city for several years, having been educated at the Academy of the Holy Cross. The bridegroom is a graduate of Georgetown Medical School.
