BIG FIRE AT BAKERTON CAUSES LOSS OF $15,000
Sheds Around Twelve Big Limekilns of Standard Lime and Stone Co. Consumed Tuesday Night.
Fire broke out between 2 and 3 o’clock Tuesday night at the plant of the Standard Lime and Stone Co. at Bakerton, west of Harpers Ferry, and consumed the sheds around twelve limekilns, involving a loss estimated at $15,000, covered by insurance. Sparks from the kilns evidently set the extensive shedding on fire and the employees of the plant were powerless to extinguish it.
Mr. J. H. Baker, of Buckeystown, Md., a member of the company, was here Wednesday enroute to the scene of the fire.He said to an Evening World reporter that the company would go ahead and erect new sheds at the kilns as soon as the insurance is adjusted, and that with their three other plants at Bakerton they would be able to fill their contracts for lime and stone without any appreciable delay.
