Mr. Thomas Haines, a well-known citizen of Charlestown, attempted suicide there Friday, by placing a pistol to his forehead and firing. Failing at the first attempt he undertook the same means a second time. The first shot failed to take effect on account of being too much elevated and only entering the skin, and was cut out by Dr. Wm. Neill. The second ball entered two inches and lodged too high to touch the brain. The patient is doing as well as expected, and will undoubtedly recover. The cause of the shooting was temporary derangement.
