STORE ROBBED AT HARPER’S FERRY AND SHOOTING.– Thieves broke into the grocery store of Mr. J. C. Child at Harper’s Ferry on Thursday night, the 22nd of December, by prying off the shutters, and helped themselves to coffee, sugar, tea, tobacco, s[c]egars, meat, &c., amounting to about $200.00 worth of goods. Thomas J. Boerley town Sergeant and Frank Stiper a deputy of Harper’s Ferry, on Saturday night following went over into the mountain opposite that town to search for goods which had been stolen from the store of Mr. Child, and when they entered the house of the suspected parties they were fired upon by some unseen persons who were secreted in the upstairs. Boerley was painfully but not dangerously wounded by a charge of shot entering his breast near the heart, and Stiper was shot in the back of the head. The wounds of the latter are slight in their character.
