Naturalization Intent: Daniel McFarland

Daniel McFarland, a native of Ireland, Tailor, who has migrated into this State, this day in open Court, gave satisfactory proof, by his own oath, that he intends to reside therein; and also took the legal oath for giving assurance of fidelity to the CommonWealth, in orderto entitle himself to certain rights, privileges and advantages of a citizen, which are allowed whom taking the said oaths by an act of the General Assembly of Virginia.

Daniel McFarland, an alien, who has lately arrived in the U.S. and is desirous of being naturalized a citizen thereof, this day appeared in Court, and in pursuance of the act of Congress, made a report of himself, which report is in the following words to wit: —

“I, Daniel McFarland, make the following report of myself to the County Court of Jefferson, in the State of Virginia, that is to say, I report that I was born in the parish of Billy, County of Antrim, Ireland, on the 18th day of May in the year 1809, being now in the 22nd year of my age, that I am a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, owing allegiance to that monarch and none oter, that I migrated from Ireland to the United States in the year 1828, and that I intend to settle myself in Harpers Ferry, Jefferson County, State of Virginia, one of the United States of America. Given under my hand this 25th day of March, in the year 1831.

Daniel McFarland, a native of Ireland, this day declared on oath in open Court that it is bona fide his intention to become a citizen of the United States, and to renounce forever, all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, whatever, and particularly to William IV. King of Great Britain and Ireland.
