Notes from Bakerton

Bakerton Notes.

The Washington Building Lime Co. are still making improvements at this place to supply their growing trade. At present they are building a large cooper shop in addition to the one they now have, and if there are any apples this fall we think the shippers can be supplied here. The new plant on the Daniels property is running full force under the management of Mr. W. H. Link, who can tell you what good lime is, as that is the only kind he burns. Mr. D. R. Houser, the general manager, has his hands full to look after all the works, but he can tell you a good yarn between times.

The company built at this place this spring ten new houses, which are filled with men that work here, so increasing the size of our little village, and who knows but what some day Bakerton will be a large town.

Thomas Hopewell, of Shepherdstown, has opened a barber shop over Moler Bros.’ store, and Tom will give you a good, easy shave at any time.

The public school closed last week with a big picnic, which was enjoyed by the little ones and some of the large ones, too. Miss Hoffman, the principal, returned to her home in Shepherdstown, very much to the regret of her many friends in this place.

And still the weddings go on, and we think Bakerton is furnishing its share of those who do not think marriage is a failure. Let the good work continue, but it is wrong to let some of the boys fall so hard, they should have some warning at least.

Mr. Wilbert Kidwiler, who is working at Dickerson, Md., sepnt Sunday at home. Wib said he came to see mama.

Mr. J. Wm. Duke, of Cumberland, made a flying visit home last Sunday. The supposition is he came home to see mama, too.

Mr. C. B. G. Harwood has purchased a very fine driving outfit, and if he didn’t have a companion we know some of the girls would like to take a drive behind that fine horse.
