Manuel, Limb Amputated
August 14, 2024A Visit to Bakerton
August 14, 2024Death of Mr. Jacob Strider.
Mr. Jacob Strider departed this life very suddenly last Saturday afternoon, at the residence of his son-in-law, Mr. Wm. J. Moler, near Bakerton, at which place he had resided since he sold his farm at Keller’s, about ten or twelve months ago. He was born an lived all his life, until the last ten years, on the farm that he sold to Mr. Keller, that being the old homestead. He was a consistent member of the M. E. Church, at Uvilla, for twelve years, and his bright and happy face will be sorrowfully missed among his large circle of friends. He was married twice, his first wife being his cousin, Miss Sallie A. Strider. Two children were born to them– Mrs. T. G. Plummer, deceased, ad Mrs. Wm. J. Moler, near Bakerton. His second wife, who survives him, was Katherine Woodward, of Woodwardsville, Md. They have been traveling hand in hand in a happy and congenial way for the last forty-five years. A more devoted couple never lived. He lived fourteen years over his allotted time. His death was expected, but not so suddenly. His wife had prayed they might spend their Easter together, around the old fire place, but God saw fit to have his bright face in Heaven on the anniversary of His resurrection. When could there be a sweeter time to die? Mrs. Strider is terribly grieved and her loss is great. On earth they were inseparable.– She is a true Christian woman and will say “Thy will be done,” looking forward to the day when all hearts shall be joined again and there will be no more separation. Mr. Strider will be very much missed by his fond grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The funeral services were held in the Methodist Church, at Uvilla, Tuesday morning, and were conducted by Rev. F. A. Strother, assisted by Rev. A. A. P. Neel and Rev. Triplet, and the remains were interred in Elmwood Cemetery, at this town. — Shepherdstown Independent.
