August 3, 2023THE STAUNTON RAILWAY. — The Bill incorporating a Company to construct a Railway from Staunton to Harper’s Ferry, which passed the House of Delegates without opposition, has provoked a warm discussion in the Senate; the section authorising an extension westwardly from Staunton to Kenawha or Ohio, being viewed by some, as threatening the James River Improvement interests. The bill has been discussed for several days– Messrs. W. McComas, Patteson, and Bernard supporting, and Messrs. Cocke, Dade and Mason, opposing the future alluded to Nothing has been decided. Pending this matter, Dr. Dromgoole has offered a provision prohibiting subscription to the stock of the Company by the Government of the U. States.
