New Concern Takes Over Plant At Bakerton, W. Va.
Charles Town, W. Va., May 20.– The Harpers Ferry Stone and Lime Company, who have been operating a plant at Millville, near this town, for 12 years, have sold out to the Millville Stone and Lime Company, a recently organized concern for $100,000. The officers of both companies are from Pittsburgh.
Washington, Alexander and Cook have purchased the southern portion of the farm known as Vinton, formerly belonging to the late Franke J. Manning, near Charles Town, containing 380 acres, at $125 an acre. Dr. J. J. Pittman has sold his farm near Brucetown, Va., containing 235 acres to Frank Howell for $55 an acre.
Col. R. Preston Chew, one of the best known Confederate Veterans in the lower Shenandoah Valley, and Commander of the Jefferson County Camp of ex-Confederate Veterans, who recently underwent an operation at John Hopkins Hospital, is reported improving.
