FATAL ACCIDENT.– We learn that whilst Mr. Thomas Hand was engaged in blowing rock upon the County road, near the residence of Mr. James V. Moore, near Leetown, on Thursday, says the Shepherdstown Register, he was instantly killed by a piece of rock striking him in the head. Mr. H. was a citizen of Harper’s Ferry. He was a native of Ireland, and about 65 years of age.
The above unfortunate old man will be remembered by our citizens as the same who was recently engaged by Messrs. Humphreys & Co. in blasting, and who, during his engagement with him, came near losing his life by an unexpected explosion.
