Diabolical Act: Murder of Superintendent Dunn
August 2, 2023Cox implicates seven individuals in murder plot.
August 2, 2023Extract of a letter, dated Harpers Ferry, Baltimore, Jan. 29, 1830.– “I am sorry to relate to you the most lamentable occurrence which I have ever witnessed. Our superintendent of the Armory, Col. Thos. B. Dunn, was shot dead in his office to-day, about one o’clock, by Ebenezer Cox. He walked deliberately into his office with a musket, and shot him dead, the ball passing through his heart; he then went out, pulling the door after him, and endeavoured to escape, but was apprehended and sent to jail. Cox is the most hardened wretch I ever beheld. After he was taken he was laughing and singing, and was frequently heard to say that he was now satisfied.”
