October 21, 2025SHEPHERDSTOWN, OCT. 3– The sickness in this Town, at the present time, exceeds any thing ever known in this place within the memory of the oldest inhabitant. There is scarcely a family that has not some one of its members sick, and many families have not one exempt to attend upon the sick. But the deaths bear no proportion to the sickness.– The common disease is the Ague and Fever, which is not very fatal, although very troublesome. It is believed there are not less than 300 persons sick at this time. The country our neighborhood is, if possible, worse than the Town, particularly on the river and other water-courses. Although we are thus unhealthy we have reason to rejoice we are no worse.
