Water into Canal; Early Opening

June 13, 2026CHOLERA.
We believe we are fully justified in asserting that this disease no longer exists in our county as an epidemic. No case has occurred in Charlestown or Harpers-Ferry during the last two weeks; Smithfield has been entirely exempt; and we rejoice to be able to state, that at Shepherdstown, where many hearts have been made desolate, the disease has subsided, no case having occurred lately. Business is resuming its usual channels, and we may venture to say, that better general health no where prevails, than throughout Jefferson county.
To the Editor of the Free Press.
Dear Sir– It gives me pleasure to be able to inform you of the entire disappearance of teh cholera from our town. We have had no case since the 27th of August. Since that period Shepherdstown has been unusually health.

We cannot discover, in answer to the inquiries which we have made concerning the health along the line of the Canal, that any sickness of a malignant character at all exists among the workmen upon it. The general health of the country seems to be completely restored, and laborers have begun to return to work upon the sections that had been vacated. [Banner.
