UNDERSIZE PIGS COST OWNER FOR FATTENING
Winchester, Va., Sept. 18 – These little pigs went to market, but they might as well have stayed home.
Carl Moler, Bakerton farmer, wanted to do his part in the Federal pig reduction campaign, so he shipped a lot to Baltimore, but 18 of them were below the minimum standard weight.
Officials at the stockyard not only refused to pay for them, but also refused to allow them to be brought home, explaining that they had come in contact with so many other pigs that there was a danger of spreading disease.
Arrangements were made to keep them at the yard and fatten them up to minimum weight at Moler’s expense, so that they may be offered again.
