Obit: Benjamin F. Daniels
August 14, 2024Harwood, Painful Injuries from Fall.
August 14, 2024Passing through the busy little settlement of Bakerton last Thursday, we stopped for a few minutes chat with Mr. D. R. Houser, the efficient superintendent of the outside men engaged upon the works of the Washington Building Lime Company, of which Mr. Daniel Baker, of Baltimore, is the enterprising and popular president. Upon inquiry we learned that the company has in its employ outside, under Mr. Houser, some forty-two men, and inside the two works, at Bakerton and Engle’s, some fifty more– or nearly one hundred in all. These are kept busy, and are turning out about twelve car-loads of crushed stone and ten to twelve thousand bushels of lime per week. The consumption of wood is enormous, and this is supplied by that go-ahead gentleman, Mr. Chas. E. Jones, of the vicinity of Leetown. Market for most of the product is found in Washington City.
